Farming in King Ferry, New York since 1863

To satisfy the appetites of our animals, 400 acres of corn are grown each year, in addition to 700 acres of alfalfa. The crop season usually starts about April 1, and goes practically non-stop until the end of October.

One of the key ingredients for a healthy and productive herd is high quality forages. A tremendous investment in labor, machinery, and ability are necessary elements but are within our control. The weather plays a major role with crop production. Everything else can be perfect, but if the weather does not cooperate, the results can be frustrating.

During haying or the cutting of corn, we may have up to 12 people and 6 vehicles working to get the feed harvested, processed and stored in the bunker silos. We will work all day and into the evening if we are racing to beat the rains. The work is very hard and tiring but the satisfaction we all feel when it is done is tremendous.
