Step 1 - Slurried manure from the dairy barns flows into a series of concrete tanks. The manure is agitated, solids are separated and aeration units reduce the ammonium nitrogen (NH4) levels and Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD). Step 2 - Manure is pumped into two FAN separators. In unit 1 the solids content in the slurry is forced through a screen to reduce the solids content from 10% to 5%. In unit 2 the screen size is finer and the solid content is reduced to 2.5%. Step 3 - The manure solids are separated by the FAN separators from the slurry and fall on to a conveyor.
